The bar located close to Eberswalder Strasse, Berlin has a special idea in many ways.
On one hand it offers people the opportunity to play a game together and having the atmosphere of being in a bar.
Also, their ideological background makes them special. Their so-called Manifesto reflects the very open interpretation of the business and leaves room not only for playing ping pong, but also for developing your own thoughts.

I am sure you have heard of that before. It is a competition where people read or recite their own original work in front of an audience. Our favorite poetry slammer Sebastian 23. One of his work called “geh” (go) is something so fresh, new and humorous. So far it made everyone smile. Plus it is full of innovation!

Cupcakes look similar in size to a muffin, but are very different in taste. The cake is softer and lighter in texture and they are generally much sweeter, since they are topped with a generous amount of buttercream frosting and can be decorated with sprinkles, fruits, nuts, chocolates, flowers or anything you can imagine!
Birte Merle Jürgens makes it possible: a stuffed animal made from fabrics you can choose yourself. Whether it is the favorite blanket from your childhood, a T-Shirt your mate used to wear or any other kind of cloth- the stuffed animal will be made of it.
The website which offers this service is called Angsthaase.de, which means as much as scaredy-cat or coward ( literally: scared rabbit) in German. So that the cuddly toy is in fact a rabbit with huge legs and long ears.
The states Berlin and Brandenburg are awarding a price (Innovationspreis) to the entrepreneurs with the greatest innovative idea. As long as you are in a public-private-partnership you can hand in your application until the 9th of July. The award is intended to support and show appreciation of excellent innovations, to stimulate the economy and to create a better networking between research, development and business. So, if you have this great innovative idea or if you are just interested, have a look at it!!!
Kyle MacDonald had nothing but a red paper clip and a completely ridiculous idea. He believed that it MUST BE possible to exchange that paper clip for something a little more valuable. Then to exchange that again and so on… at the end there should be a house (as a gift for his fiancée).
So MacDonald startet to offer his paper clip on a website (some internet blog, maybe should have tried this instead of writing some stuff every Sunday evening…). His first offer: a pretty nice pen. He took it and offered that pen again on this side. During the next 12 months he had gotten e.g. a porcelain door handle, a generator, a record-deal and a movie cast in “Donna on Demand”, which he finally swapped for that house he was going for.
The Rock n’ Roll Hostel in Berlin’s offbeat district Kreuzberg is not only a shelter for tired musicians and party animals but seen from a different perspective it is a great and innovative business idea!
The hostel offers 7 rooms for overnight accomodation, which are absolutely charming since they are all furnished individually and decorated by local artists. Besides, the Rock n’ Roll Hostel has a bar area where visitors can spend time playing pool, table football or pinball. Weekly events as the Wednesday night cocktail parties or the Mexican brunch on weekends give variety to those guests, who are staying a bit longer.

During the street survey one of our interviewees complained that dog owners sometimes have a hard time in Berlin. It is not only difficult to find an affordable dog-sitting service, but also very complicated to find out where you are allowed to take your dog.
Due to that, we took a look at communities for dog owners to give you proof that this idea is actually working out in other countries.
The two communities I want to indroduce to you are dogtree and dogster.
Dogtree sees itself as a service that connects you with other dog owners. By signing up you become a member of the dogtree network which makes it easy to find your dog a play mate or walking friend as well as the possibility to arrange dog sitting. Moreover, dogtree keeps you informed about local news and events (just keep in mind that this is an Australian website). The whole platform reminds us of social communities like facebook.

Dogster on the other hand is a larger community and sees itself as the most helpful source for everything that is related to dogs. The website features information for people with a dog, for those who are looking for one and for people who simply love dogs.
Dogster pools everything, from dog training and finding the right vet, up to dog adoption and breed infos.
However, the most interesting aspect of dogster is the dogster community page, which has a section called local listings. Here you can find dog-friendly business, service and park listings. Although this feature is meant to be for people living in the United States, it lists 208 dog-friendly hotels in Berlin alone!
Innovative? What is innovative? Are we innovative? Can everybody be INNOVATIVE?
Innovation is characterized as a creation of new ideas or things. Somebody who is looking forward, somebody that is ahead of current thinking, that somebody is innovative. At least, that’s what the dictionary says.
To apply this to what we are doing, we can say that it’s hard to actually evaluate innovation. Things that to someone are not innovative, maybe even “oldschool” or just a stupid idea, can be highly innovative evaluated by another person. While it’s hard to define, what is true and clear, is that INNOVATION is exciting. It deals with something new or something renewed.
Maybe we are just all highly innovative in our own way, otherwise the human species probable wouldn’t have survived for so long and especially gotten so far with everything we created. Let’s just hope innovation can also save us from ourselves!!!
As our blog will inform you about special innovative business ideas in Berlin we first wanted to find out what the people are interested in, what do they need in Berlin and what do they miss.
Therefore we interviewed potential blog readers. based on this information we will find out which businesses we can present.
